On Saturday, I took Etta for her very first haircut. I have cut her hair at home before, but I have NO idea what I am doing and the last time she was really uncooperative and wiggly and it turned out a bit crooked. So, I decided it was time to take her to someone who knows what they are doing. I chose a place that specializes in haircuts for children and went on a day when I could leave Daniel home with Daddy.
I went ahead and gave her a bath before we went so they wouldn't have to wash her hair (I wasn't sure how she would do for that). We got there and they bucked her into the child-sized salon chair! I was thrilled that the chair had a buckle! Then the hair stylist put a drape on her and started spritzing water onto her dry hair. This was the face she made for most of the time we were there.
The salon was great! Very kid oriented. TV's at each station playing Toy Story and a little waiting area for the waiting siblings with computers and toys. There were benches lined up right behind the salon chairs for the parents to sit on. It was really neat and I wish I had taken more photos of the place!
Etta sat *fairly* well. She didn't understand some of the directions the lady asked of her, like, "look down at your toes" or "look up at the tv". So, I had to help with that. The iPad helped and so did the magnadoodle.
When she was done cutting her hair, the lady asked me if we wanted "braids and sparkles". It was tempting, but I didn't think Etta would sit still for all of that so I declined. She just used the blow dryer. Etta told her it was "hot" (which, has been a newish concept for her and I am thrilled when she uses it correctly).
We were in and out of there in thirty minutes. Overall, it was a good experience for us and I don't think I will be attempting home haircuts with her anymore.
