A Summertime Rite of Passage

Keith came home early today so he could spend some time playing in the sprinkler on the patio with Etta this afternoon.

While we were out there playing with the water and the cups and the buckets, we heard a familiar tune swirling around in the air.

So, Keith jumped up, grabbed the camera, and ran outside so he could flag down...

The Icecream Truck!!!

We got three CottonCandy Swirl Popsicles and sat out on the patio to eat them together (after a few photos in the front yard).

When the delicious "frozen confection" was all gone, we were delighted to find little jokes printed on the popsicle sticks!

Are you ready?

Q: What did the mustard say when it was left behind?

A: Don't wait for me, I'll ketchup

Q: How can you defend yourself uderwater?

A: Carry a swordfish (duh!  of course! hahaha)

Q: What do you call it if a dog gives you a big kiss?

A: Pooch Smooch

Keith/Mel Birthday Party

Keith and his mama, Mel *almost* share a birthday.  Keith was born the day after Mel turned 20.  As long as I have known them, they have shared a birthday party every year.  So, on Sunday we went up to Keith's parents house for a little lunch celebration.  We had pizza delivered and Mel made fruit salad and a leaf salad and Granny made the cake.  It was great to get together and see everyone.  Etta stole the show, though.  There's nothing like nine adults sitting around watching a toddler entertain them for a few hours.  :)

Have you noticed yet that I'm never in any of the pictures?!!?  *sigh*

Etta's New "Slide"

Last night I went to a children's consignment sale (Encores and More) and racked up on toys!

This morning Etta had a field day checking out all of her new loot.  We played with everything!  I had to run and grab my camera though when she did this:

Happy Birthday, Keith!

Keith's first request this morning was for a gift he knew might be coming his way.  A cd.  He wanted to have it to listen to on his way to work.  So, before he even got out of bed, I ran out and "wrapped" his cd and a Titans t-shirt that I got for him in a paper Target grocery bag and used newspaper I found on the counter in lieu of tissue paper.  Then, I scooped Etta up out of her crib and we went back to our bed to give Keith his gift.  Etta liked helping her Daddy pull all of the newspaper out of the bag to get to the gift.  We lounged in bed for a few more minutes and then it was time to get on with our day.  We had breakfast and then Keith went on to work.

Soon after he got home this evening, we gave him his cards and the rest of his gifts (all in one proper gift bag with proper tissue paper).  Mostly he got shirts and a pair of shorts.  His big gift this year was the stereo we bought on Sunday.
After Etta went to bed, we had dinner and then I sang "happy birthday" to him with a candle in a Klondike Bar (his request).  We had to sing the song twice because Mr. Impatient blew out the candle before the song was even over.  Didn't even bother making a wish.  *sigh*

So, he got a do-over.

Happy Birthday, hon.  Hope it was a great day!

Words for yesterday's "Wordless Wednesday"

On one hand, Etta's sweet shirt speaks for itself.  On the other, I feel I should tell you the story of that shirt (onesie).  I'll give you the edited version, because I'm the kind of person who tends to tell long drawn out stories (complete with back stories) and I don't want to put everyone through all that.  SO...  The very first time I met Lori and her daughters Natalie (Ds) and Alyssa in person was during a layover in Atlanta on our way to Panama.  During our little frazzled visit, Lori gave me that onesie which had belonged to Natalie (nat.aboutmybaby.com).  I had actually seen photos of Natalie wearing it at her Buddy Walk when she was about 30 months old (she is now 4!)
At the time, that onesie (size 24 months) seemed HUGE for my little 5-month-old, and though it's still a little big, it fits her enough to wear it.  I put a cute little tutu (thanks Monica & family) on with it and got a couple of cute shots of her before we headed out to Publix, where she promptly spit-up all over it.  *sigh*
