At the end of April, Etta got strep for the second time. She had it for the first time almost exactly a year ago. Last year I knew she had it when she broke out in a rash, scarlet fever. Without the scarlet fever, I would have gone on believing she just had a cold and not taken her in to the pediatrician. It's difficult when you have a (basically) non-verbal child. She can't/doesn't tell me that her throat feels like it's on fire. This time around, she looked like she had a cold. The sniffles and a cough mostly, no fever. But then, a couple days into the cold, she started getting spots on her face.
I began to suspect Impetigo, and therefore Strep throat. So, I took her in.
Yup. She tested positive for strep. So, twice now my daughter has caught strep, and both times (thankfully), it caused some sort of skin rash that sent me to the pediatrician.
A couple of days later and she was feeling MUCH better and less speckled. I, on the other hand, caught strep from her. But, I knew right away what it was when my throat was just starting to feel scratchy and I got antibiotics right away. Daniel and Keith were spared!

You may have seen me post this on Facebook, but I got a cute video of Etta feeding Daniel.

The Play Room!
Keith built some shelving units for me last month. This was a trade-off so he could go on an overnight backpacking trip. He needed to earn some camping credits, so I told him he could build some shelving units for the playroom and he did! They are SO useful and I feel so much more organized in there! They still need to be painted, but I think he waited to paint them so he could trade that chore for more camping credits. lol.

Owen's 4th Birthday Party and Emma's 5th Birthday Party
Our friends Owen and Emma share the same birthday and are a year apart. Owen had his party on their actual birthday (April 29th). Etta was sick on the day of Owen's party (with strep, though we didn't know it was strep yet), but Daniel and I still went to celebrate with them. I didn't take any pictures, but I stole a couple from Suzy's facebook.
Emma's party was the following Saturday at an indoor playground called Monkey's Treehouse. Etta was feeling much better by then so we were all able to go!

Daniel's six month check-up
Daniel's looking good!
Height 26 3/4 inches - 60%
Weight 17 pounds 11 ounces - 50%
We went ahead and decided to try Zantac (reflux meds). His reflux is pretty bad and I can tell it burns him. So, I finally asked for some Zantac AND I switched his formula from Gentelease to AR (added rice starch) and in the three weeks we've been using it, I can tell a real difference! So, yay! He got three injections, poor guy. At least he won't get any shots at his nine-month. Yay, again!
He cut his first two teeth this month. The first bottom chomper popped on May 10th and it's next door neighbor popped up on May 25th. He worked hard to earn those two teeth!
I took this picture about a week and a half ago (before the second tooth popped. See the white sharpie down there?

Finley Elizabeth Overbeek!!!
born May 10, 2012
7lbs 3oz | 19.25 inches
Finley was kind enough to arrive JUST before our trip to Tampa. I was thrilled to get to snuggle that sweet little freshie before she was even 24 hours old. It was really great to spend some sweet one-on-one (two) time with Lauren (and Finley) in her hospital room before more visitors showed up. Congratulations to our friends, Lauren, Dustin, and Big Brother, Liam!
The rest of the Primrose Gang (and Lauren's dad) stopped by the room while I was there...
A week later, Daniel and Finley had their first date while Etta was in school.

Chick-fil-A "Spirit Night" benefiting GiGi's Playhouse!
I haven't really had a chance to talk about GiGi's yet, but don't worry, it's coming. The quick version is that there is a group of us working hard to bring a GiGi's Playhouse to the Nashville area. I'm actually a board member. Fancy, huh? GiGi’s Playhouses are Down syndrome awareness and educational centers that provide resources, specialized teaching, and support to individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. There are currently 13 locations in the US, and we can't wait to bring one to Nashville! For more info, check out the GiGi's website at http://gigisplayhouse.org/
You can also follow along on our Nashville blog. It's still just a baby blog right now, but we hope to make it a great place to share information.

Swim Lessons!
We were able to find a great swim instructor for Etta this summer! She will have two 30 minute sessions each week this summer. This afternoon was her first lesson with Ms. Melissa!
"Hi mama!"
The video is from far away, but it shows her jumping in the water, going all the way under, and popping up. She loved that and didn't want to do any of the other activities after she let her do that.
