Today you turn three. You've been counting to "two" for a few months and now it's time to learn how to stick that third finger up and say "three". You amaze us every day with how funny and sweet and smart you are. You seem to learn something new every day. You love to draw and sing and talk to yourself in the mirror. You are very helpful and want so badly to be independent. You get frustrated with me when I help you brush your hair or your teeth because you want to do it on your own. You love to dance and jump and run and your Daddy is teaching you to skip. You blow kisses and you give high-five's and you're learning to say "I love you". You love purses and bags and will even lift Momma's heavy purse and try to put it over your shoulder. We have to be careful about what we let you see these days because you will copy us.
You have a gentle heart and you like to feed our dog, Ferris, her treats and your snacks and you always make sure you tell her "nite nite" on your way to bed or "goobyeeeee" when we leave the house. You also like to pet Ferris and the cats without any prompting. You like to welcome people at the door and always say "goobye" when they leave (or when you leave a room). You're a picky eater most days, but you're getting pretty good at feeding yourself with a spoon and a fork. Your favorite foods include goldfish crackers, cheerios, cheese, triscuits, yogurt, pudding, hot dogs, and spaghetti and french fries! You like to dip food in ketchup and you say "dit dit" every time you dip. You won't eat vegetables (in fact you make this horrible gagging sound when you try to eat them), but we sneak them into smoothies when we can so you don't know you're eating them. I hope you learn to like them because Momma and Daddy do!
Your communication has taken off this year. You know a ton of signs and are starting to vocalize the words. You're pretty good at letting us know what your wants and needs are, but you become frustrated with us pretty easily when we don't catch on quickly. We've seen a few tantrums lately and most of them stem from your desire to communicate your wants. We're working hard to help you find ways (signs) to get your point across so no one gets frustrated.
You're still learning how to play WITH friends. You like to play near other kids your age, but you haven't quite figured out how to engage them in play yet. You love cartoons and will sing along and do all of the gestures to the theme songs. Your favorite shows include Blues Clues, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Fresh Beat Band, and Dora/Diego. You LOVE music and will always try to sing along. You like to sing (and do the hand motions to) "Wheels on the Bus", "Itsy Bitsy Spider", and "If Your Happy and You Know It" among many others.
Before we know it you will be starting school and you will become a big sister. I know you'll be a great big sister. I bet you'll want to help change diapers and give bottles... after you get over the fact that Momma and Daddy are holding a baby instead of you, of course. :) We are really excited for you and all you are going to learn at school and at home over the next year!
We love you SO much. It's almost more than my heart can handle sometimes. Happy Birthday, sweet girl!
Love,
Momma and Daddy

Sweet post. It's hard for me to believe she is a little girl now and not a baby...
