Etta's Five-Year Check

Etta had her annual well-check with her pediatrician earlier this week.
She weighs 34 pounds (10%) and is 38.5 inches tall (< 3%). Those percentages are on a "typical" chart. This means that among typically developing five-year-olds, she's smaller than average. Average is 50%. When you look at her growth on a Down syndrome chart, her height and weight is in the 50th percentile. So, she's "average" for a girl with Down syndrome. We really don't care about percentages, though. It's really about seeing consistent, healthy growth and she's right on track for HER! :)

She had to get two vaccinations (boo!), but they say she's caught up until she's, like, a teenager. She did surprisingly well with the pokeys. Another nurse had to come help hold her down because I was wearing Alice, but she only screamed for a second and I was quick to pop a sucker into her mouth. Dr. Hood held off on drawing blood because Etta has an appointment with her nephrologist (kidney doctor) in September and he's a vampire. No need to draw twice for her annual check of thyroid levels and CBC, we'll just have Dr. Hunley order those labs for us next month.

Thanks to Grandmomma for meeting me out there to help with Daniel.
