Etta and I are both a little sick again. :( I FEEL like we're getting over it, but it started last weekend and has hung around all week making our heads stuffy and our noses runny. I thought it might be allergies since we spent some time outside on Sunday, but I'm not so sure. I took a 24-hour zyrtec one night this week and I was in an awful fog the whole next day AND it didn't clear my sinuses at all. The neti pot isn't helping either... Breathing through my mouth is getting old! I guess if it doesn't clear up in the next few days, we'll both go to the doctor to make sure it's not a sinus infection. Etta actually seems a little better today...
So, last Sunday morning, while Keith was still camping, Etta and I went outside to enjoy the sunshine and play with chalk. After she went down for a nap that day, I worked out in the yard trimming bushes and stuff and the sneezing started and the stuffy just never went away.
Also, this week something HUGE happened! We bought a new (used) minivan! I am so excited about this thing! You may recall that last summer we had to rent a minivan for our trip to the beach. Before this trip I was SO sure I didn't want a minivan! Our next car was just going to be an SUV with a third row of seating. Even last year, we knew we'd be buying a new car this Spring. We wanted to make sure this new car would grow with our family as we were hoping to have more children. Well, after roadtripping in that rental minivan for a week, I was SOLD! And, really, I didn't care if I only had a minivan for one kid (but I kept HOPING I'd at least be pregnant by the time we bought the new van). So, this Spring finally rolled around and we filed out tax return and we got our financing lined up and we started online shopping. Except, we had a LOT of criteria we wanted to meet. We wanted a Honda Odyssey. We wanted the EX-L model (and it'd be a bonus if it also had navigation/DVD in it). We wanted it to have less than 40K miles on it, but were willing to go up to 45K for the right car (so, we thought it needed to be an '08 or maybe an '07). We wanted it to be a dark color (preferably black). We wanted it to come from a southern state (road salt = possible rust). We wanted it to have a clean Carfax/AutoCheck. And, of course, we wanted it for a certain price. Turns out, that was a tall order! But, while we were ready to buy, we weren't in a rush to do it. So, I just checked daily to see if a new listing popped up. I was becoming frustrated when each time I thought I had found the perfect car, I'd click the carfax and see it grew up in New Jersey or New York.
But then it happened. Wednesday night Keith was giving Etta her bath and I clicked on cars.com to see if there were any new listings. And there she was! A BLACK 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L with navigation/DVD with 35,500 miles on it for $5K LESS than we wanted to spend! We wanted to call about it that night, but it was after closing time already. Keith was so SURE there'd be people lined up around the block for this car that he said we'd go first thing in the morning to see it. So, about 30 minutes before the dealership was to open I called to say we were interested in that car and that we'd be there in an hour. Then, I called Etta's school and told them she was sick (which, technically, she was/is). Then, we drove the 45 minutes out to LaVergne to check out the car.
It's perfect! (aside from a few little scratches here and scuffs there). Etta had fun climbing around in it while we were checking it out. Then we moved her car seat over and took it for a test drive. We knew before I even put it in "drive" that we were going to buy it. It's a very comfortable ride and SO roomy and it had all the bells and whistles that we wanted (well- except for an automatic hatch and except for a way to hook up my ipod). While we were out test driving the Odyssey, the sales lady was out driving Keith's Sentra that we wanted to trade in. When we got back to the dealership, we made the deal. Though really, there wasn't much of a "deal" to make. This dealership is great. We felt that they were asking a fair price for the van and she offered us a very fair price on the trade-in. There was no pressure to buy and the atmosphere was laid back. If you're looking for a Honda or Acura, or if you own one that needs servicing, I would recommend Accurate Auto in LaVergne. Etta was pretty cranky for the last half of it, but she was sick and getting sleepy. So, I signed some checks and we traded keys and we were headed home. Etta passed out in the car.
I meant to take my camera to the dealership, but I forgot it at home. Here are a few pictures from the online listing.
