First Nap Boycott

I have a cold.  *pout*  I started to feel the tell-tale tickle in my throat on Monday.  By Tuesday, it was ON!  I felt like poo and was so glad that we didn't have any therapy or doctor's appointment or anything that day.  I took Etta up to the playroom and I laid on that mattress up there feeling sorry for myself.  All day, the only thing I wanted was a bowl of baked chicken soup from Demos'

When I got down on the floor to play with Etta she got behind me and pulled me down (she's been doing this lately) and I was more than happy to just lay there on the carpet.  Then, my sweet little princess went over to the bed and got the blanket and dragged it back over to where I was so she could cover me up.  *love*  I made it through the day and by the time I got in bed I felt even worse (why do cold symptoms always get worse at night?).  I was running a fever and felt achy.

By this morning I was feeling better.  Not normal, just better.  I got showered and put on real clothes for the first time in days and had planned to head into High Hopes for a KidTalk make-up session with Courtney.  Well, Keith texted on his way in to work that the interstate was a parking lot and I decided to ask Courtney if we could just cancel.  I was still sick and I didn't feel like sitting in traffic.  We rescheduled for tomorrow morning.  Since I was dressed and since we could use some groceries, I decided to go ahead and run out to Publix.  Etta helped me look through the flier and make our shopping list.

After we got back home, I unloaded, fed Etta lunch, and put her down for a nap.  She was so still and so quiet for about fifteen minutes that I was so sure she was asleep.  Then, I heard her.  She was still awake.  This is not uncommon... for her to play in her room for an hour or so (with nothing but a few books, a sock monkey, a couple of Pillow Pets and two blankets) before falling asleep.  Well, an hour passed and she wasn't asleep, then another hour passed and she still wasn't asleep.  It sounds mean to leave your kid all alone in their room for 2+ hours, but she was perfectly content running around and jumping and tumbling and throwing her sock monkey around and looking at books.  There was a lot of talking to herself and giggling going on in there.  At 3:00, after 2.5 hours, I reluctantly let her out of her room.  Remember, I'm still sick and had exerted energy on a grocery store trip and I wanted a nap! *sigh*  This was her first ever nap boycott.  Before today, she had never gone a full day without a nap.  Here she is when I went in to let her out:

So, we went up to her playroom and played.  I also rested some on that bed up there.  I could tell she had skipped her nap.  She would get fussy over simple things, like getting her foot "stuck" in a basket (it wasn't really stuck, but she thought it was).   Finally it was time for a bath and dinner and bed.  She was Ready for her binkie and blanket by the time I put her down.  She passed out!
getting sleepy!

Happy to be in bed!
Sometime in the afternoon, I noticed that her nose was a little runny. I'm afraid she's caught my cold.  we'll see in the morning if I have to cancel KidTalk again...
